The release of the first netbook of the world with LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless technology that is built-in, provided an insight into speeds that could be availed on mobile gadgets in the coming years. Samsung has accepted at Mobile World Congress that the benefits of LTE, which is the next generation 3G, needs to be evolved still in the UK. Samsung presented an upgraded N150 netbook, which was built with Kalmia, a chipset LTE is the way to go: It results in the guaranteed speeds of a minimum of 50-100 Mbps, which is double to that of the speeds provided by the fastest fibre-optic cable of Virgin Media. Moreover, these speeds are much faster than HSDPA. This was informed to Wired by a spokesperson from Samsung. Also, it eases the pressure on 3G networks. Now, Samsung would like to confine itself in watching the trends as UK is not still in possession of the required infrastructure that can support LTE. UK's mobile network operators are seriously considering to invest in the next generation of wireless network standard. O2 is yet to decide on which technology it should go with, WiMAX or LTE. This is expected to offer stiff competition to Huawei. Working along with Nokia Siemens Networks, pre-commercial LTE terminals were already displayed by Telefonica. |
